Illustration of S/V Beowulf

Beowulf is a 1978 Marieholm 26 made in Sweden, and named after the legendary Geatish hero in the eponymous epic poem of the same name. She was designed by Tord Sundén as a variant of the venerable Nordic Folkboat.

Her full specifications can be viewed here.

We found her on Vancouver Island in 2018, where she had been lovingly cared for by her previous owners in Tsehum Harbor, near the former home of M. Wylie Blanchet on Curteis Point; author of the The Curve of Time, a classic of cruising literature in the region.

Today she continues to sail the waters of Puget Sound and the greater Salish Sea from her home port in Port Townsend Bay.

John Vigor wrote a great article about Folkboats for Good Old Boat Magazine that you can read here. And the book Folkboat Story: From Cult to Classic — The Renaissance of a Legend by Dieter Loibner chronicles the full history.
